Composite/Galvanized Metal/Other

This list is limited by imagination only. However, some alternatives to wood or stone might be:

  • Composite(wood/plastic)
  • Galvanized metal
  • Logs
  • Driftwood
  • Re-purposed wood
  • Stone/Brick/Rocks

Expected lifespans for the above materials will vary widely. Composite may last for several years and in some cases is comparable or better than cedar. Galvanized metal looks very stylish and is moderately priced. Re-purposed/salvaged wood for example can look great as a raised garden bed but the age may be unknown and therefor estimated remaining useful life would also be unknown. Driftwood could look spectacular bordering your garden, but unless you already have a stockpile of it it’s going to take time and money to collect the pieces.

In addition to various building materials, there are also many raised bed kits available from retailers. These kits don’t come ready for planting, and the quality will vary as will the prices. If you find one you like we will happily build it for you and get it garden-ready.
